Yoga Love

Yoga Love

Recently, I have found myself in a space of immense gratitude for the practice of yoga. I started practicing over 18 years ago and can tell you it’s truly life changing. I BELIEVE so strongly in the fact that IT works. There is a reason yoga has been around for thousands of years.

As I get older, my practice has definitely shifted from my mid-20s into my 40s. I tend to blame my twin pregnancy on not being able to hit a lot of the peak poses or inversions – but then I remind myself that it really doesn’t matter at the end of the day! What matters is that I continue to be kind to myself and others. It has allowed me to embrace change and aging with GRACE. It’s the Power of the Moment. Being in the Now. Being Present. All those catchy phrases you’ve seen on yoga tops – Be the Change, Be the Light, Choose Love, Love Wins, etc. You learn it on the mat and can translate it into whatever reality you are faced with.

I can ramble on and on about the physical benefits. I was so lucky to take a Yin training this summer with the amazing Danielle Mercer. Diving into the science and research around why yoga works is amazing. The process of allowing your body to rebuild collagen and repair at a deeper cellular level is amazing. If anything, I get sad more people do not practice regularly to reap these countless benefits. Joint health, spine health, and of course MIND Health!

I’ve been all around the block and practice and trained in different modalities. You can kinda call me a yoga whore. I’ve done the Ashtanga and the YIN. I’ve practiced Baptise and I’ve practiced restorative. I’ve dabbled in Jivamakti, Anusura, Bikram, Yoga Sculpt, you name it. I have tried, love, and appreciate it all! I can not judge that one is better as it is so personal. It’s all Good! Everyday is different, every body is different, and how one can respond is different. Some people may transform in repetition while some people thrive in the dynamic of change. That’s the beauty of yoga – there is something for everyone.

I teach because I believe in the power and healing benefits of this practice. I teach because it’s a form of GIVING. I teach to remind myself and others that you can’t take the practice or yourself too seriously. To have fun. To be light. To laugh. To give the love of the practice and what i have learned throughout the years from the many amazing teachers I have been able to work with is the ultimate reward. The transformation in friends and students over the years from yoga is also affirming. Tears are shed then change occurs. Yoga allows us to crumble to the ground in times of loss, grief, resentment and find resiliency and a deeper connection to begin again. One inhale and exhale at a time.

This week have been an important time for me to reflect on my commitment to the practice of yoga personally and as a teacher. I am head over heals in love with this practice that has been proven to change and even save lives. I am beyond grateful for this practice and can’t shout it loud it enough from the mountain top.

So please consider giving yourself the gift of yoga in 2018. Give yourself the time to slow down, to breathe, and to connect. And bring a friend or someone who needs the healing!

GIVING IS TRULY RECEIVING

Thank you so much for reading and Namaste!
